Three parks, one swim under a waterfall.
The plan is to leave Watkins Glen mostly damp. Two swimming holes, one 215-foot column of falling water, and halal lunch and dinner bookending it all.
1
⏱ 09:00 · Morning Splash
Buttermilk Falls State Park
Named for the foamy cascade. Natural swimming hole at the base of the lower falls (lifeguarded summer only — late June through Labor Day). Short Gorge Trail up past a chain of smaller falls.

Friday · The Long Way Home
One last waterfall by the highway, then west.
A slow morning along Seneca Lake, a roadside waterfall most people drive past without realizing, and the interstate home before dark.
1
⏱ 09:00 · Hidden Gem
Hector Falls
165-ft roadside waterfall on Rte 414 just north of Watkins Glen. Tiny pullout — drive carefully, parking is narrow and traffic moves fast. 10 minutes is enough.

⏱ 10:00 · Slow Morning
Seneca Lake Pier · Watkins Glen Harbor
Coffee, walk the pier, breathe in the lake one more time. In season, a Seneca Lake boat tour leaves from here — worth it if you have an extra hour.

Watkins Glen — South Rim Trail
If you want a different view of the gorge before driving home, the South Rim Trail and Indian Trail see far fewer people than the Gorge Trail. About 2 miles roundtrip.
